Chiropractic is safe
IF YOU THINK THE MEDIA IS NOT BIASED AGAINST CHIROPRACTIC, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE. This information is taken from an FCER newsletter.
"Several studies linking hormone replacement therapy and stroke,Alzheimer's disease, and dementia have been published in the May 28, 2003 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. But "some women and doctors say they're still not ready to abandon the menopause treatment." The results were found in the Women's Health Initiative trial of estrogen plus progestin (Prempro) for women aged 50 to 79 years. Part of this study was halted last year because of an increased risk for breast cancer, heart attack, and stroke that was found. Dr. Barbara Soltes, a reproductive endocrinologist at Chicago's Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center said the results are "very shocking." But she adds that she "will likely continue to prescribe the supplements for relief of change-of-life symptoms." Said one woman interviewed in the Associated Press article, "Every time a new study comes out, you can't just react. You have to weigh what is this doing for me now." The Associated Press. May 28, 2003.
IT APPEARS THAT THESE ARE ACCEPTABLE RISKS TO MEDICAL DOCTORS PRESCRIBING DRUGS, IN THIS CASE PREMPRO. ARE THEY ACCEPTABLE RISKS TO YOU, as a PATIENT? The FCER article continues...
"Now consider that just two weeks ago the story was "spinal manipulation linked to stroke" which advised "If you've got a pain in the neck, think twice about getting your neck cracked. Spinal manipulative therapy, as chiropractors call it, increases your risk of stroke." Such news stories are part of a negative public relations campaign by the medical establishment which feels very threatened by the effectiveness of chiropractic therapy. These news stories always fail to mention that the risk of a stroke caused by cervical manipulation is very minimal (1 in about 2.5 million) and can be reduced even further if the chiropractor avoids using certain neck adustments. Dr. Burgoon uses this type of adjustment only after very careful screening.
STILL NOT CONVINCED?
Consider that medical doctors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S.! These deaths are called iatrogenic, meaning induced by a doctor's activities, manner or treatment. This is stated in their own peer-reviewed journal, The Journal of the American Medical Association. We refer you to the article on mercola.com website titled, "Doctors are the third leading cause of death in U.S.". Also, consider that the malpractice insurance for a chiropractor is thousands of dollars less per year than it is for a medical doctor. If the risk of stroke was high for patients receiving chiropractic manipulations, chiropractic malpractice insurance rates would have to be very much higher than they are. Rest assured, chiropractic is not only safe but it is also more effective for many health problems. Oatmeal Recipe
For 1 serving, put 1/4 cup of regular rolled oats in a saucepan and add 1 cup of water. Bring to a simmer and immediately turn down the heat to low and cover. Let simmer for 20 minutes stirring once or twice and adding more water if necessary to achieve the consistency of pancake batter. It should be creamy. Add 1-2 tsp. of butter, 1 tsp. honey, cinnamon, nuts, raisins or cut up apples if desired. With butter and nuts added, the oatmeal will delay hunger better than oatmeal alone or oatmeal with sugar.
